Health and Beauty– what if you decide to write for this column while not feeling particularly healthy and beautiful at the moment? You go the basics, that’s what you do. So let me just talk to you about what beauty really is to me.
‘Eternal beauty’-if you Google these words today, prepare yourself not to be confronted with pictures of Goddess Aphrodite, or Marilyn Monroe or a very cheerful poem by Keats, but by a line of products promising you riddance of those dark spots, crow’s feet, wrinkles and everything else that might steal your ‘youthful glow’.
That my friends, is a sorry reminder of how we’ve clearly gone wrong with our concept of beauty in the first place. It’s important to realize that health and beauty are linked together and in that order. If you don’t believe me, think about this: If you have a balanced diet & thorough nourishment, there’s nothing keeping you away from that ‘soft and supple skin’ that those commercials give you hope of.
Looking good certainly has its pre-requisites, but being slim and fair are not one of them. We say we’ve come a long way from racism, but somehow none of us can deny the inner urge to look a shade lighter. in my opinion, real beauty is being able to embrace your skin tone the way it is congenitally, and being able to pull it off with your unique sense of fashion. I could give you no better evidence than Nina Davuluri and her being crowned Miss America.
So, no matter what your height, weight or skin color is- don’t forget that beauty is wholesome and pay attention to your health, because you’re worth it!
